Kenya

Kenya is located in East Africa and shares borders with South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, and Tanzania. It boasts a stunning tropical coastline with beautiful golden sand beaches. Situated in the Great Rift Valley and overlooked by Mount Kilimanjaro, Kenya is known for its breathtaking natural scenery, including forested hills, patchwork farms, wooded savannahs, and vast forests teeming with wildlife.

The country’s rich tapestry of traditional African cultures is influenced by over 70 distinct ethnic groups, ranging from the Maasai, Samburu, Kikuyu, and Turkana tribes to the Arabs and Indians who settled along the coast.

Kenya offers some of the finest beaches, spectacular wildlife, and scenery, supported by a highly developed tourism infrastructure. With over 50 parks and reserves spanning various habitats from deserts to mountain forests, as well as six marine parks along the coast bordering the Indian Ocean, Kenya provides diverse natural experiences.

Home to iconic wildlife such as lions, cheetahs, hippos, buffalos, wildebeest, elephants, zebras, giraffes, and rhinos, Kenya’s National Parks and Game Reserves offer abundant wildlife sightings. In June and September, the renowned annual animal migration takes place. This phenomenon features two million wildebeest migrating from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara in Kenya, forming part of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa.

Key attractions in Kenya include the Maasai Mara National Park (known for the great migration), Amboseli National Park (with the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro), Lake Nakuru National Park, Lamu Island, Lake Naivasha, Nairobi (the capital city), Malindi, and Mount Kenya National Park.  Some of the most beautiful beaches in Kenya include Diani Beach, Watamu, Turtle Bay in Malindi, Lamu, Tiwi, Shanzu, and Nyali.

In summary, Kenya promises an authentic African adventure in one of the world’s most pristine safari destinations.

Climate

June to October – Dry season: During the Dry season daytime temperatures are usually around 23°C at higher altitudes, such as the Masai Mara, and 28°C at lower altitudes, such as the coastal areas. The sky is clear and the days are sunny. These are the coldest months with early morning temperatures at higher altitudes typically 10°C. It is advisable to pack warm clothing, as morning game drives in open vehicles will be cold. There is very little rain in most of the country. Wildlife is easier to spot because the bush is thin and animals gather around water. July to October are the best months to see the wildebeest migration.

November to May – Wet season: During the Wet season daytime temperatures are between 24°C and 27°C at higher altitudes. At lower altitudes, daytime temperatures are more consistent and hover around 30°C. Mornings stay cool at higher altitudes, and it is advisable to pack warm clothes for early morning game drives. The scenery is beautiful and green and new-born animals can be seen. Migratory birds are present from September to April. Except for March to May, rains are usually just short showers in the afternoon.
